Blog 30: Bathing in Style

Studies say that on average a person spends around 92 days sitting on the pot and over 12,000 hours in the shower in a lifetime. I say that life is too short to spend in shitty bathrooms. Especially shitty hotel bathrooms, after all, you're paying for that too. That said, there exist some hotels with the most immaculate and well-designed bathrooms. Given a chance, I wouldn't even mind spending my entire stay in those bathrooms.

For all you bathroom singers, shower over thinkers and pot social media surfers, or anyone who just enjoys a good hotel bathroom, below is a list of the most lavish hotel bathrooms you could make use of. Makes for a good toilet read!

1- The Silo Hotel, Cape Town stands tall near the V&A Waterfront and features 28 exquisitely styled Victorian bathrooms complete with luxurious amenities and fittings. The centrepiece of the bathroom, below the grand chandelier and beside the Moroccan ottoman, is either the Oslo or Classique bath. Popular for their comfort, both baths celebrate the fusion of tradition and modernity. The positioning of the bath allows guests unobstructed views of the city through the ingenious glass windows inserted into the geometry of the hotel. The Silo Hotel was recently included in a list of the Top 10 Most Instagrammable Bathrooms In The World- don't say I didn't tell you!

2- Huge, sparkling bathrooms reflect your gorgeous self in every surface, whether polished marble or gleaming chrome at the Le Royal Monceau Raffles, Paris. Every room has either a claw foot tub and/or a walk-in rain shower, with Clarins products just like those in the spa. The Royal Monceau suite boasts custom Philippe Starck furniture, an acoustic guitar, and a curated selection of art, while its 320-square-foot salle de bain is a work of art in itself with mirrors layered upon each other giving into a futuristic feeling. Here, even the toilets are top-tier Japanese TOTO models, which spritz and dry your derrière. Madonna, Robert De Niro, and Michael Jackson have all stayed here and I don't think either complained!

Mirror, mirror on the wall, which bathroom is the best of them all?

3- La Sultana Marrakech, an authentic signature 5-star hotel, is a timeless palace and a proud member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and of Great Hotels of the World. Designed for lovers of hotels where every piece of architecture is unique, each riad is carefully decorated using local flavours. Silver carved basins and fittings, large mirrors, double walk-in marble showers, leather embroidered Moroccan slippers, pure cotton robes and luxury amenities complete the bathroom. Mimicking the Roman architecture replete with arched ceilings, marble finishings and columns, you'll feel nothing short of Moroccan royalty stepping into the bathroom. Don't forget to visit the on-site hammam.

It can't get more royal than this

4- Yes, it’s true. In Jamaica, you can stay at the place where Fleming created Bond, James Bond. The Fleming Villa, a part of the GoldenEye Resort in Jamaica, was designed by the man himself. Here, you’ll find three large garden bathing areas, complete with cascading showers, claw-foot baths drawn by a personal butler and eco-friendly bath products, nestled in lush fauna and flora. The romantic outdoor showers flanked by your own private beach only add to the 007 vibe and luxury that makes The Fleming Villa a top attraction in Jamaica.

5- The Oberoi Amarvilas is located in the capital city of the Mughal Empire, Agra and this Indian palatial hotel offers unobstructed views of the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World even from the bathroom of its luxury suites. The unique octagonal glass-panelled rain shower and a standalone bathtub form the central attraction of the bathroom that also has its own sun terrace. If you don't want to look at the Taj Mahal while soaking in the tub, book the Kohinoor Suite to view it while relaxing on the bed.

6- Wildly famous for its private theatre, a pool that lights up pink at night, a recording studio with the mixing desk used to produce John Lennon's Imagine, plus electric guitars and a drum kit and waterproof sofas, the Villa Rockstar, Eden Rock St Barths also boasts of a perfectly circular bathroom fitted with 24k gold tiles, an oval Boffi stone bathtub and a separate shower. The other bathroom has Moore and Giles leather-clad sliding doors. Each bathroom has exclusive St Barths toiletries and the best part, you can sip one (or all) of the 40 signature whiskies from the in-room bar while relaxing in the tub. Surely not a place where you can poop the party!
